The Burmese Association was formed in 1965 as a self-help welfare organisation to assist Burmese people migrate to Australia, and to welcome/assist newly arrived mgrants and refugees from Burma.
The Association was incorporated in December 1969.
Between 1965 and 1969 the Association corresponded with intending migrants in Burma and successfully sponsored many families.
We carried on with this type of assistance until the mid-70s when the later arrivals were sponsored by their relatives who were now better established.
Our current activites are now much broader and are as described and defined in our Constitution : " To promote and facilitate better understanding, closer relationship, and mutual appreciation amongst the Burmese and Australian communities by - Social, Welfare, Cultural and Educational Activities ".
